OUR
HISTORY

Courage and madness on the shores of Lake Garda

A choice that becomes destiny

The story of Ca’ Lojera began with a decision that could not be postponed. Ambra and Franco Tiraboschi, who came from a background of traditional farming and direct trade, found themselves at a crossroads in the early 1990s: continue producing grapes without any certainty, or transform that raw material into their own project. Not choosing was not an option.

Agricultural roots and the birth of the winery

Since the late 1980s, the company has been cultivating around five hectares of Turbiana, a white grape variety typical of the Lugana area. At a time when the area and the grape variety were little known, Ambra and Franco decided with courage and a touch of madness to set out on their journey. In 1992, Ca' Lojera produced its first vintage, marking the beginning of a journey characterised by hard work, passion and determination. Today, the winery is known for being one of the most authentic producers of Lugana wine.

Sirmione as a place for the soul

The history of Ca’ Lojera is inextricably linked to Sirmione, a land of ancient charm and unique landscapes. Here, on the southern shores of Lake Garda, vineyards grow in white clay soils of lacustrine origin, which give the wines a distinct minerality. Today, the winery exclusively vinifies grapes grown on its own land, cultivated on over twenty hectares between Sirmione and the morainic hills in Ponti sul Mincio.

THE NAME CA' LOJERA

The name of the winery has its roots in the oral tradition of the area. “Ca’ Lojera” means “house of wolves” and recalls ancient tales linked to the shores of the lake, once travelled by merchants and protected by packs of wolves. A name that reflects the character of the winery: courageous yet practical, instinctive yet precise, capable of combining vision and rigour.

"It is said that once upon a time, when Lake Garda and Lake Frassino were connected by a dense network of waterways, “black merchants” arrived by boat from the north and used the houses on the lake shore as hiding places, which were defended by packs of wolves".

Tradition and identity in wines

Ca’ Lojera wines tell the story of the union between territory, landscape and capacity for evolution. Lugana, in particular, clearly expresses the salinity and austerity typical of clay soils, once the bed of Lake Garda, qualities that emerge with even greater depth in the Superiore and Riserva versions. Production is intended for both the domestic and foreign markets.

A look ahead

After more than thirty years in business, Ca’ Lojera continues to look to the future with the same spirit of dedication and curiosity it had when it started out. Amber once described the present as a kaleidoscope: made up of experiments, listening, relationships and new challenges. A dynamic balance that allows the winery, still led by Franco Tiraboschi alongside the new generation, to evolve without losing touch with its history.
